HHSP Community – Wellness & Retention – Professional Development
1. HHSP Community Engagement
Minimum # of HHSP community engagement activities for the year: 2 — 1 required + 1 elective
Required Activity:
- HHSP Freshman Seminar EDUC-U 215
(Fall only) Note: Some HHSP freshman are exempt. Contact us for more information about EDUC-U 215 and the exemption policy.
List of example elective activities:
- HHART Arts Showcase (in February)
- HHSP social event (e.g., Dogs & Donuts)
- HHSP Link student organization social event (e.g., Trivia Night)
- Involvement in organizations with other Hudson & Holland scholars (e.g., HHART, MAPS, STEM Outreach)
- Civic engagement (e.g., community activism, political campaigns)
- Other (discuss with your HHSP advisor for approval)
When to complete: Fall only for EDUC-U 215. Fall or spring semester for elective activities.
2. Wellness & Retention
Minimum # of HHSP wellness & retention activities for the year: 2
List of example elective activities:
- HHSP Wellness & Retention event (e.g., Wellness Café, Zumba)
- HHSP Link student organization Wellness & Retention event (e.g., DeStress)
- Emotional wellness event or course (can be outside HHSP)
- Financial wellness event or course (can be outside HHSP)
- Meeting with HHSP Wellness & Retention Advisor
- Physical wellness event or course (can be outside HHSP)
- Social wellness event or course (can be outside HHSP)
- Spiritual wellness event or course (can be outside HHSP)
- Other (discuss with your HHSP advisor for approval)
When to complete: 1 activity per fall and spring semester.
3. Professional Development
Minimum # of professional development activities for the year: 1

- Career/internship fair
- Career course
- Conference, symposium
- Create or update resume
- Creative activity (e.g. performance, art exhibition)
- Graduate school event (e.g., fair, panel, workshop)
- Health Professions & Prelaw Center (HPPLC) event
- HHSP professional development event (e.g., IU School of Medicine visit, alumni career talk, graduate school event, lab tour

HHSP Academics
Minimum # of academics activities for the year: 6 — 4 required advising sessions + 2 academic electives
Advising Requirement for HHSP Freshmen in University Division (UD) |
- 1 individual session with HHSP advisor
- 1 additional session with either HHSP advisor, other IU advisor, or some kind of group advising meeting (e.g., career services, overseas study, major exploration, study skills, etc.)

Advising Requirement for HHSP Freshmen in University Division (UD) AND a Member of Another Program (e.g., Athletics, Groups, Hutton Honors, 21st Century Scholars, Wells, etc.) With Assigned Academic Advisor: |
- 1 individual session with either HHSP advisor or other assigned academic advisor
- 1 additional session with either HHSP advisor, other IU advisor, or some kind of group advising meeting (e.g., career services, overseas study, major exploration, study skills, etc.)

- Academic skills/success events by programs outside HHSP (e.g., FASE, Groups, 21st Century Scholars, Hutton Honors, etc.)
- HHSP academic skills/success events (e.g., Study Skills for CHEM-C 117, Academic Success in STEM)
- Meeting with peer coach
- Meeting at least monthly with peer mentor
- Review session before an exam

- Peer Assisted Study Sessions (PASS) each week for MATH-D 116 or MATH-D 117
- Study tables or study groups each week
- Student Academic Center (SAC) workshops
- Using tutoring resources each week for a class

Diversity
